CHE SPETTACOLO!!! Ancora un altro GP eccezionale, è ancora la volta di Tony Cairoli che trionfa davanti al pubblico di casa!!! Questa volta però non è stata una vittoria schiacciante come in Germania, ma l’intento di recuperare punti sui piloti davanti a lui in classifica è riuscito, sotto le parole della conferenza stampa dopo la fine delle gare della 450!

Antonio Cairoli:
Hai vinto davanti al tuo pubblico, raccontaci la tua giornata!
“E’ stata una giornata fantastica! È sempre molto difficile vincere in casa e questa pista non è una delle mie preferite diciamo… fatico sempre molto su questo tipo di tracciati.. ma ora sto acquisendo sempre più fiducia in me stesso e feeling con la moto. Come sapete l’anno scorso ho solo fatto poche gare prima di infortunarmi e da quel momento in poi non ho potuto più fare test per tutto il resto della stagione. Poi quest’anno avevamo ricominciato a testare ma poi sono caduto di nuovo e non siamo più riusciti a continuare. Adesso finalmente siamo riusciti a testare bene e a fondo a partire da dopo la gara in Lettonia, abbiamo cominciato a trovare la “quadra” e stiamo migliorando… abbiamo ricevuto nuovi pezzi dalla KTM, arrivano un sacco di cose nuove ogni settimana… e mi sento molto, molto meglio sulla moto, è semplicemente fantastica e anche il mio feeling sta migliorando. Ho accorciato le distanze in classifica generale e questo è il mio obbiettivo, se non avessi fatto sesto in Messico forse sarei più vicino ma ci stiamo avvicinando… sento che posso migliorare ancora molto e non vedo l’ora del prossimo GP in Spagna, è una bella pista che solitamente mi piace e dove ho vinto l’anno scorso la mia prima gara con la 450.”
In Gara1 hai fatto un holeshot incredibile, invece in Gara2 non sei riuscito a partire in testa e hai anche faticato un po’ di più, ti abbiamo visto al comando dopo che Gajser ha fatto quell’errore ma poi Febvre ti ha raggiunto e così non sei riuscito a vincere entrambe le gare come forse avresti voluto.. anche se sei contento della vittoria generale raccontaci un po’ delle differenze tra la prima e la seconda gara:
“In realtà non c’è stata molta differenza, so che mi manca ancora un po’ di velocità ed è evidente, Tim Gajser mi ha distanziato un po’.. ma sto lavorando proprio su questo (la velocità) e spero che non accada più in futuro… anche Romain Febvre stava spingendo forte e ho fatto fatica perché era più veloce di me in alcune parti della pista dove io faticavo, si è avvicinato e mi ha passato.. ma per il campionato va bene, il mio obbiettivo ora è di avvicinarmi alla tabella rossa, è stato un buon risultato e per il momento va bene così.”
Romain Febvre:
Romain due gare completamente diverse per te, ma raccontaci prima di tutto della seconda gara e della tua lotta con Tony, di come sei riuscito a superarlo negli ultimi minuti di gara, com’è andata?
“È stata una bella lotta e mi sa che il pubblico si è divertito molto! Ma ho faticato con le partenze in entrambe le gare.. in gara1 sono partito secondo ma poi sono caduto subito alla prima curva.. e lì per lì ho pensato “.. cosa mi deve capitare ancora..” e invece in gara2 sono partito sesto o settimo e poi ho rimontato fino alla prima posizione, ma sono rimasto bloccato dietro a Paulin per un sacco di tempo… e vedevo Tony e Gajser che si allontanavano… e mi sono detto “..devo passarlo!”.. ci ho provato in tutti i modi, all’interno e all’esterno era impossibile… ma alla fine ce l’ho fatta e ho raggiunto gli altri due.”
Dopo il brutto risultato in gara1 sapevi che ormai sarebbe stato difficile vincere il GP, ma penso che i punti che hai conquistato negli ultimi giri di gara sono molto importanti per la lotta al campionato:
Non ho pensato molto ai punti perché ovviamente puntavo alla vittoria generale.. ma è stato impossibile a causa del risultato in gara1 e sinceramente non pensavo neanche di riuscire a salire sul podio.. quindi sono molto felice della seconda posizione, il campionato è lungo, mancano 11 gare e non sono preoccupato..”
Tim Gajser:
Non sei sorridente come siamo abituati a vederti, forse la troppa pressione dei fan ti abbiamo visto fare errori che di solito non fai, in gara2 hai fatto una partenza fantastica ma poi ti abbiamo visto cadere, cosa è successo?
“Sono le gare… può succedere a tutti… sono salito un po’ troppo in alto sull’appoggio e li c’era una pietra che mi ha fatto intraversare.. è stato una caduta abbastanza brutta ma poi sono riuscito a rimontare fino al quarto posto e a tornare sul podio che è ottimo… ma in generale sono deluso del mio weekend, so che posso fare di meglio, sono veloce e solo i miei errori mi hanno impedito di fare meglio… ma ho ancora la tabella rossa e non vedo l’ora della prossima gara in Spagna.

Come sono stati i tuoi fans? Devi dire qualcosa perché li abbiamo visti saltare come allo stadio e urlare il tuo nome dall’inizio alla fine!
Si è stato fantastico avere tutto quel supporto e tutti questi fans dalla Slovenia, sembrava di stare al mio GP di casa! Ma invece siamo in Italia, non è così vicino e li ringrazio tutti per aver viaggiato fin qui!

ANTONIO CAIROLI:
Antonio Cairoli, you won in front of your fans tell us about it:
It’s fantastic, it’s always very difficult to win in your own country especially on this track that is not one of my…I should say.. favorites.. because I always struggle on this kind of tracks… I am now gaining some confidence and finally also more feeling with the bike thanks to a lot of testing we have been able to do recently. Last year I only did a few races before my injury and couldn’t test for the rest of the year, and this year we started testing in the off season and then I crashed again, so no tests at all.. now since Latvia we have finally been able to test and we have new parts from KTM, a lot of new stuff.. and every week comes something new.. and I feel much, much better with the bike, it’s just amazing and my feeling also is improving. The standings are getting closer.. that’s for sure my goal, you know without maybe that 6th place in Mexico I would be closer to the red plate, and that’s my goal for sure. But it’s coming… I feel that I can improve a lot still and I am looking forward to the next GP because Spain is a nice track, normally I like it and last year I won there my first race with the 450, so I’m looking forward to it.”
First race incredible holeshot, second one you didn’t manage it and then you struggled a little bit more.. we saw you leading after Tim made the mistake but then Romain caught you and you couldn’t get that win, that maybe you wanted to finish with a 1-1 result. Eeven though you are happy for the overall win tell us about the differences between first and second moto:
“Actually there is not much difference, I mean I know that I am missing some speed in the first laps, that’s clear.. and you could see that Tim was pulling away a little bit.. but I am working on this and hopefully in the future it doesn’t happen anymore.. but also Romain was all over pushing and pushing.. and I was struggling a little bit.. he was just faster than me in some sections of the track and coming closer… and then he passed me… but you know for the championship is good, that’s my goal now.. just coming closer.. it’s a good result and at the moment it’s good like this.”
ROMAIN FEBVRE:
Romain, first race and second race two completely different ones, tell us first of all about this second race, the battle with tony and you managed to pass him in the last minutes of the race, how was it?
“Yeah it was good for sure, I think the public enjoyed it! We struggled a little bit with the start.. first race I started second but then went down in the first corner.. so I was really like “..what can happen again…” and second race I managed to start sixth or seventh and then I came back to first with a good battle.. but I was stuck behind Gautier Paulin for a long long time and I saw Gajser and Tony going away so I said to myself “I need to pass!” I was trying everything.. inside outside and it was not possible.. but then I finally made the pass and caught up with the guys in front.”
Of course you knew it was difficult to win the GP especially after the result of the first moto but I guess that those points that you got in the last laps are very very valuable for the fight for the championship:
Yes but I am not looking at points.. I was looking for the overall but with my first moto it was not possible but I am really happy to finish second because I wasn’t even thinking of being on the podium.. the championship is really long, ten or eleven rounds to go so I am not worried..”
TIM GAJSER:
Tim, we don’t see that smile on your face that we are used to, maybe too much pressure from the fans we saw you making mistakes you don’t normally make, that second moto you had a fantastic start but then we saw you going on the ground, what happened?
“Yeah actually… that’s sport it can happen to anyone… you know I went too high on the berm and there was one stone over there that I hit and went sideways.. it was quite a bad crash but anyway… I managed to come back to fourth to be again on the podium so that’s good.. but overall I am disappointed with my weekend, I know that I can do better.. I have the speed and just my mistakes this weekend kept me away from a better position, but anyway I am happy with the red plate and I am really looking forward to Spain.”
Did you injure anything in particular in that crash or are you ok, we saw you limping a little bit?
“No no.. I’m fine.”
How were the fans out there? You have to say something about them because we saw them jumping around after the start of the second moto like in a football stadium, singing your name and cheering you from the beginning to the end!
“Yes it was just amazing to have so many supporters, so many fans from Slovenia were here.. I was feeling like at my home GP! But we are in Italy and I want to say a huge thanks to them for travelling all the way here to support me, so thanks a lot guys!”
