FIM Motocross World Championship – MX1 / MX2

Talavera de la Reina (Spagna) 25 maggio 2016 –  Siamo ormai alla soglia della metà strada del Campionato  del Mondo 2016 FIM Motocross: questo fine settimana si disputerà la nona gara delle diciotto in programma, sul circuito tradizionale e “vecchio stile” di Talavera de la Reina in Spagna.

Finora non abbiamo alcun indizio su chi vincerà la classe regina… per il momento il debuttante Tim Gajser, del team Honda Gariboldi, conduce di 4 punti davanti al campione in carica Romain Febvre  del team Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing, ma entrambi devono tenere d’occhio l’otto volte campione del mondo della Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Antonio Cairoli, che gli sta silenziosamente rosicchiando punti  in terza posizione.

Talavera de la Reina è una pista tradizionale con molti saliscendi, dossi naturali e grandi salti, dove i piloti dovranno “scrubbare” forte per “stare bassi” e guadagnare tempo prezioso. Il terreno è argilloso e tende a compattarsi molto ma solitamente permette ai piloti di essere creativi con le loro linee. Queste caratteristiche tradizionali in combinazione con l’imponenza dei salti “moderni” garantiscono sempre un alto livello di competizione e spettacolo qui a Talavera.

Talavera de la Reina ha ospitato il suo primo appuntamento del Campionato Mondiale Motocross FIM nel 1994, quando vinse l’americano Donny Scmidt con una Yamaha YZ 250cc, mentre il GP più recente è stato disputato l’anno scorso con la vittoria in MXGP di Antonio Cairoli del Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, e di Valentin Guillod del Kemea Yamaha Racing team, che l’anno scorso ha vinto qui il suo primo Gran Premio nella classe MX2.

Quest’anno sarà la decima volta che Talavera de la Reina ospita il GP di Spagna e in aggiunta ospiterà anche il quinto round del Campionato Europeo EMX250, così come anche il terzo round del Campionato Europeo EMX300 e EMX125.

Il più recente vincitore del MXGP di Spagna è stato Antonio Cairoli ma nonostante Tony abbia ottenuto molti riconoscimenti e vittorie, negli ultimi anni vincere qui a Talavera non è stato facile. Infatti l’anno scorso dopo una partenza di stagione in sordina, almeno per i suoi standard, qui in Spagna TC222 ha deciso di cambiare tutto. La sua fidata KTM 350SX-F fu stata “parcheggiata in garage” e proprio qui in Spagna utilizzò per la prima volta in gara la “grande e cattiva” 450cc. In quell’occasione aveva anche indossato i suoi caratteristici colori psichedelici con un completo rosso e stivali bianchi. In ogni caso non è mai merito né della moto, come disse una volta Lance Armstrong, né tantomeno dell’abbigliamento.. L’anno scorso Tony è riuscito a vincere al suo esordio con la 450cc e da allora ha abbandonato per sempre la sua tanto amata 350cc.

Ma l’estate sta arrivando..  e sta arrivando anche il “vero” Antonio Cairoli, che grazie alle vittorie degli ultimi due Gran Premi adesso è carico e pieno di fiducia in se stesso.

Se Tim Gajser vi ha impressionato con le sue “scubbate” in Germania state pronti a rimanere a bocca aperta appena comincerà a guidare su e giù per le colline di Talavera.. Ma a parte le sue “scrubbate” incredibili, Tiga partirà con la tabella rossa per la terza volta quest’anno e guida il campionato con 4 punti di vantaggio su Romain Febvre.

Per Romain Febvre il GP di Spagna a Talavera de la Reina dell’anno scorso è stato il primo segnale che grandi cose gli stavano per accadere..  proprio qui è arrivato sul podio della classe regina per la prima volta ed è stata una tappa fondamentale per la sua carriera. Questo risultato fu già molto sorprendente per il giovane Romain, che a quel tempo era ancora sotto osservazione, ma ciò che è ancor più strabiliante è il fatto che quel primo podio in MXGP lo ha poi portato ad una serie di 16 podi consecutivi, che il campione in carica ha  interrotto solo al quarto round di questa stagione in Argentina.

L’ultima  vittoria di GP del francese è stata a marzo nella sabbia di Valkenswaard, nei Paesi Bassi, il che potrebbe lasciar pensare che sia un pilota “sabbiaiolo”, ma invece la maggior parte delle persone che lo conoscono come pilota sanno bene che Romain è sicuramente uno dei più forti piloti al mondo sui terreni duri e scivolosi, e questo fa di lui uno dei più favoriti per la vittoria in questo fine settimana.

Anche Kevin Strijbos e Ben Townley, il duo “stagionato”del Team Suzuki MXGP, dovrebbe trovarsi a suo agio sul tracciato “vecchia scuola” del circuito di Talavera,  come anche Max Nagl del team Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory, che lo scorso anno salì sul secondo gradino del podio. Inoltre Gautier Paulin, l’attuale vice campione, e il numero 3 del mondo Evgeny Bobryshev, cercheranno di fare bene sulle loro HRC Honda.

Per quanto riguarda Jose Butron, l’eroe locale del team Marchetti Racing KTM è arrivato a ridosso della top ten per tutta la stagione e sarà bello vedere che ci riprova questo fine settimana davanti ai suoi fan.

Ci sono un sacco di fan che sperano che Dylan Ferrandis, del team Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing, riesca ancora una volta questo fine settimana a contrastare Jeffrey Herlings. Dal suo ritorno, Ferrandis ha di gran lunga superato le aspettative in merito alla rapidità con cui è tornato ad essere veloce, e addirittura veloce quanto Jeffrey Herlings.. L’anno scorso il francese si è ritirato durante il GP di Spagna dopo essersi infortunato al ginocchio, ma allora la pista aveva anche avuto la meglio su Herlings, che aveva fatto una caduta spaventosa quando a causa di un high side è stato disarcionato dalla moto sulla rampa di un salto. Herlings ne era uscito illeso, ma l’incidente è stato molto brutto..  Jeffrey Herlings “The Bullett” (il “Proiettile”) del team Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, ha vinto qui solo una volta nel 2014, e l’anno scorso ha chiuso al secondo posto dopo questo “piccolo incidente”.. che potete rivedere qui: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7GU_-5C_KA

Herlings è conosciuto come il re di sabbia e per lui riuscire stravincere sul duro terreno di Talavera sarebbe ancora più soddisfacente, ed è sicuramente ciò che JH conta di fare..

Jeremy Seewer del Team Suzuki World MX2 ha interrotto la sua fila di podi consecutivi in Trentino a causa di un paio di cadute di troppo.. Tuttavia è ancora al secondo posto in campionato con 37 punti di vantaggio su Pauls Jonass.

Pauls Jonass del team Red Bull KTM Factory Racing non è un grande amante dei terreni  duri e argillosi.. ma il giovane prodigio Lettone sa bene che è questa la sua debolezza.. ma Pauls è anche stato la sorpresa dell’anno scorso quando ha chiuso la stagione come vice campione del mondo, ed è quindi evidente che è uno che impara in fretta..

Un pilota che è sicuramente amante dei terrei duri è Samuele Bernardini del team TM Racing Factory. Un paio di settimane fa in Italia Samuele era davvero in “pompa”, e se “l’astro nascente italiano” riuscirà a restare ben concentrato questa potrebbe l’occasione per salire sul suo primo podio di questa stagione.

Ultimo ma non meno importante, ci sarà un folto gruppo di tifosi spagnoli a supportare il loro giovane talento della Honda Gariboldi Jorge Saragozza, che sarà anche ospite speciale sul “LIVE Studio Show”.

TALKING POINTS PREVIEW FOR TALAVERA

TALAVERA DE LA REINA (Spain), 25 May 2016 – Holy smokes, we are about to hit the half-way mark in the 2016 FIM Motocross World Championship series with round nine of eighteen taking place this weekend on the old-school circuit of Talavera de la Reina, Spain. So far we have no clues as to who will win the premier class. The rookie, Honda Gariboldi’s Tim Gajser leads by 4 points over the defending champion Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Romain Febvre, while both will have to keep an eye on the eight-time FIM Motocross World Champ Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli as he quietly chips away at their points in third. Since we are living in the day and age of the ‘scrub’, Talavera de la Reina is really something to look forward to. The track itself is pretty much as close to natural terrain as it gets. It has plenty of decent hills, the type that riders can scrub really hard over, while the rest of the jumps are pretty much table tops which are cool to get sideways on. As for the surface, it’s clay which packs down really hard and generally allows the riders to get creative with their lines which in combination with the impressiveness of the jumps, always makes for awesome racing. Talavera de la Reina first hosted a round of the FIM Motocross World Championship back in 1994 where American Donny Scmidt was the winner on a Yamaha YZ 250cc, while its most recent round was last year where Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli won in MXGP and Kemea Yamaha Racing’s Valentin Guillod won his first ever grand prix in the MX2 class. This year is the tenth time that Talavera de la Reina will host the MXGP of Spain and in addition it will also host the fifth round of the European Championship EMX250 series as well as the third rounds of the European Championships EMX300 Presented by FMF Racing and EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing.   Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli is the most recent winner of the MXGP of Spain. Although Tony has many accolades and multiple GP wins, last years win here in Talavera wasn’t just any old win. After an average start to the season last year, at least by his standards, TC222 decided to switch up everything.  His usual KTM 350SX-F got parked in the shed and he whipped out the big bad 450. He also benched his trademark fluro colors and wore red AXO racewear with white Sidi boots. Anyway, it’s not about the bike as Lance Armstrong once said, nor is it about his kit. Tony managed to win on his 450cc debut and still rides the 450 to this day. Summer is on its way and so too is the real Antonio Cairoli who has built some solid momentum and confidence after winning the last two grand prix’. If Honda Gariboldi’s Tim Gajser impressed you with his sick scrubs in Germany, you better hold your jaw in place because it’s bound to drop at the circuit renowned for its scrub enticing hills. Putting his insane whips aside, Tiga will also be running the red plate for the third time this year as he leads the championship, 4 points clear of Romain Febvre. The MXGP of Spain in Talavera de la Reina was the first sign of big things to come for Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Romain Febvre who hit a career milestone here when he landed on the podium for the first time in the premier class. While that was astonishing for the kid who was still under the radar at the time, what is more mind blowing is the fact that that podium finish led to a streak of 16 consecutive podium appearances. The defending champion broke that podium run at the fourth round this season in Patagonia Argentina. The Frenchman’s most recent grand prix win was back in March in the sand of Valkenswaard, The Netherlands, which could fool you into thinking he’s a better sand rider, yet most people that know him as a rider would say he is definitely one of the strongest riders in the world on hard and slick surfaces which will make him a huge threat for the win this weekend. Team Suzuki World MXGP’s duo of Kevin Strijbos and Ben Townley are two seasoned riders who should enjoy the old school flow to the circuit of Talavera. So too will Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Max Nagl who landed on the second step last year. The current vice world champion, Gautier Paulin, and world number 3, Evgeny Bobryshev, will both be looking to light some candles on their Team HRC’s Honda’s as well. As for the local hero Marchetti Racing KTM’s Jose Butron, he has been knocking on the door of the top ten all season long. Since his return Ferrandis has by far exceeded expectations in terms of how quickly he has returned to speed, let alone the same speed of Jeffrey Herlings. Last year the Frenchman pulled out of the MXGP of Spain after tweaking his knee, but in saying that, the track also got the better of Herlings, who scarily high-sided into the face of a jump. Herlings came away unscathed, but the crash was ugly. The Bullet, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings has won here once, back in 2014, but he only finished second last year after having a biggie which you can watch on our Youtube channel by clicking HERE. While Herlings is labeled the king of sand and Talavera couldn’t be further from a sand circuit, it just makes smoking everyone on the hard-pack a sweeter feeling, which is what he’ll be aiming to do. Team Suzuki World MX2’s Jeremy Seewer broke his podium streak last weekend after having a few spills. Nevertheless he is still sits second in the championship, 37 points up on Pauls Jonass. Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Pauls Jonass is also not a huge fan of clay, but the Latvian wonder child knows that it is his weakness and after being the surprise of the season last year when he finished as the vice world champion, it’s apparent he is a pretty fast learner. One rider that is fond of a hard surface TM Racing Factory Team’s Samuele Bernardini who was on fire a couple of weeks ago in Italy. If the Italian star on the rise can keep his focus sharp, he could be in for his first ever podium finish this season.
