Il Campionato del Mondo FIM di Motocross del 2016 comincia a prendere forma, e questo fine settimana si correrà il “FULLBACK MXGP di Lombardia”, il dodicesimo round che si terrà sulle nere sabbie mantovane del CircuitoInternazionale Motocross Città di Mantova “Tazio Nuvolari”. Fino a questo punto, in questa stagione fantastica, abbiamo assistito alle incredibili prestazioni da parte degli attuali detentori delle tabelle rosse, i due giovani fenomeni Tim Gajser e Jeffrey Herlings. Ma ha impressionato soprattutto Tim che a soli 19 anni, quindi due anni in meno di Jeffrey.., ha già vinto tantissimo e ci ha già fatto quasi dimenticare di essere un giovane esordiente della classe regina!
Fino allo scorso weekend abbiamo assistito a delle battaglie pazzesche tra Gajser ed il Campione del Mondo MXGP in carica Romain Febvre, la loro determinazione a vincere li ha portati entrambi a correre sempre vicinissimi al limite, lasciandoci tutti sbalorditi per la velocità a cui riescono ad andare… ma hanno lasciato a bocca aperta anche alcuni dei piloti più celebri e di successo al mondo come Cairoli e Nagl, solo per nominarne un paio… e qualche giorno fa Evgeny Bobryshev del Team Honda HRC ha addirittura dichiarato: “Non so come facciano ad andare così veloce.. devo capire perché non riuscivo a prenderli..!”
Ma sfortunatamente lo scorso weekend la corsa al titolo di Febvre ha ricevuto una brutta battuta d’arresto infatti Romain, durante la gara di qualifica in Inghilterra, è caduto pesantemente a terra andando ad impattare contro la rampa di un salto e procurandosi così un forte trauma cranico che l’ha costretto a ritirarsi dalle gare della domenica. Così Febvre ha perso subito 50 punti da Gajser che invece ha nuovamente sorpreso tutti con una doppia vittoria di manche. Lo scorso fine settimana la Yamaha ha subito annunciato che Febvre non avrebbe corso la domenica ma neanche in Italia, ed è un vero peccato perché Romain lo scorso anno a Mantova aveva vinto entrambe le gare. Vista la situazione è probabile che Antonio Cairoli, che ora è a soli 3 punti da Febvre, a Mantova riuscirà a superarlo nella classifica generale
Il Circuito Internazionale Motocross Città di Mantova “Tazio Nuvolari” ha fatto la sua prima apparizione al mondiale nel lontano 1991, quando vinse Trampas Parker, e da allora ha ospitato otto round del Campionato del Mondo Motocross. Qui il nostro Antonio Cairoli ha vinto tre volte, due in MX2 nel ’07 e ‘08, ed una in MXGP nel 2010. L’anno scorso Romain Febvre ha vinto l’MXGP, e Max Anstie vinse la MX2. Questo fine settimana si correranno anche l’ottavo round del Campionato Europeo EMX250, il sesto round del Campionato Europeo EMX125 presentato dalla FMF Racing, ed il quinto round del Campionato del Mondo Femminile di Motocross 2016 che torna a Mantova per la prima volta dal 2008.

Dopo l’uscita di scena del Campione del Mondo in carica lo scorso weekend in Inghilterra, Tim Gajser ha aumentato a 74 punti il suo vantaggio su Febvre, ma Cairoli lo segue a soli tre punti e probabilmente Febvre perderà presto anche la seconda posizione in campionato. Un po’ di numeri e le statistiche: Tim ha vinto 6 gare di qualifica, ha guidato in testa per 173 giri, ha vinto 11 GP, ha vinto 6 GP cioè più del 50% dei GP di quest’anno, ed è sempre salito sul podio quest’anno! È evidente che è Gajser l’uomo da battere.
Ma quando sei già uno dei piloti più veloci al mondo non è facile aumentare ancora la velocità e l’intensita per cercare di tenere il passo.. e questo lo sa bene Max Nagl che smania dalla voglia di raggiungere il ritmo di Gajser. Il forte e determinato pilota Tedesco è attualmente quarto in campionato, a 27 punti da Antonio e 30 da Febvre.
Per quanto riguarda il duo del Team HRC, Gautier Paulin e Evgeny Bobryshev, sono entrambi sempre in corsa per il podio e nelle posizioni di testa. Paulin da quando è tornato dall’infortunio sembra raggiante, e anche se il Francese sa di poter dare ancora di più, per il momento è soddisfatto di quello che sta ottenendo pur non essendo al 100%. GP21 sarà ospite al LIVEStudio Show, con Paul Malin e Jeff Emig.
Antonio Cairoli –Red Bull KTM Factory Racing- , durante la seconda manche dello scorso weekend a Matteley Basin, mentre cercava di superare un altro pilota, ha cambiato traiettoria all’ultimo momento sulla rampa del salto quadruplo, ma così facendo ha colpito uno scalino inaspettato sullo stacco che l’ha lanciato troppo in alto e non abbastanza in lungo.. e così Tony è arrivato corto sul grande salto quadruplo atterrando pesantemente e danneggiandosi il polso sinistro. Nonostante gli si fosse subito gonfiato ed il dolore fosse molto forte, Tony ha stretto denti e ha sofferto riuscendo a finire la gara in decima posizione ed a racimolare così qualche punto importante. In settimana i controlli medici hanno evidenziato una micro frattura ma nessun danno ai legamenti per fortuna. L’otto volte Campione del Mondo non è per niente finito come alcuni sostengono e sicuramente non è più il dominatore di una volta, ma nonostante questa ennesima sfortuna Tony si presenterà al cancelletto di Mantova, sopporterà il dolore e lotterà come sempre.
Da tenere d’occhio anche I due piloti Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing, Jeremy Van Horebeek e la wild-card Australiana Chad Reed. Jeremy è Belga e sa come si guida sulla sabbia, e l’abbiamo visto bene l’anno scorso qui a Mantova quando arrivò secondo. Reed invece dovrebbe essersi scrollato un po’ di ragnatele di dosso a Matterley Basin, e dovrebbe anche aver fatto delle modifiche alla moto.. speriamo che sarà più a suo agio qui a Mantova e che possa entrare nella top10.

Fino a questo punto Jeffrey Herlings ha dominato la MX2 vincendo 21 gare su 22, ed ora ha 148 punti di vantaggio su Jeremy Seewer. Ma come Herlings ha ben capito a sue spese gli anni passati, non si può cantare vittoria prima dell’ultimo traguardo! Jeffrey non ha mai vinto qui a Mantova, ma sempre di sabbia si parla e quindi è molto probabile che vinca, ma come sempre Dylan Ferrandis e Jeremy Seewer faranno di tutto per cercare di batterlo.
Pauls Jonass -Red Bull KTM Factory Racing- sarà molto contento di tornare a correre sul morbido e questo weekend potrà fare sicuramente molto bene.
La lotta in classifica tra Alexander Tonkov in quarta e Benoit Paturel in quinta posizione è molto serrata, i due piloti Yamaha sono separati da solo cinque punti, sono saliti entrambi sul podio per due volte e si daranno ancora battaglia sulla sabbia Mantovana.
Sarebbe bello rivedere Anstie vincere nuovamente qui come l’anno scorso, ma stavolta c’è anche Herlings al cancello.. Samuele Bernardini –TM Racing Factory Team- non è un amante della sabbia e sa bene che su questo deve lavorarci.. l’anno scorso ha concluso solo 19esimo e sicuramente vorrà migliorarsi, e considerando i suoi progressi rispetto all’anno passato è molto probabile che ci riuscirà!

| MANTOVA (Lombardia, Italy), 22 June 2016 – Eleven rounds in and the championship is starting to take shape as we head for the FULLBACK MXGP of Lombardia-Italy which will take place on the black sand of Mantovain Italy this weekend. It will be the twelfth round of the 2016 FIM Motocross World Championship where both Red Plate holders, Honda Gariboldi’s Tim Gajser and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlingshave been nothing short of incredible. Gajser especially, since he is only 19 years old, that’s two years younger than Jeffrey Herlings, and it already seems easy to forget he is still a rookie in the premier class!
Up until last weekend, the racing between Gajser and the defending MXGP World Champion, Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Romain Febvre, was mind blowing. Their determination to win races encouraged both of them to ride so close to the edge it made you squint in awe as you watched them and the insane speed they ride at. Even some of the most famed and successful riders in the world such as Antonio Cairoli and Max Nagl, just to name a couple, were left scratching their heads. Team HRC’s Evgeny Bobryshev even said, “I don’t know how they are going so fast, I have to check because I couldn’t catch them.” Unfortunately, Febvre’s championship chase took a massive blow last weekend with a concussion in the qualifying race forcing him out of the main events. As a result, he lost 50 points to Gajser, who blew everyone out of the water once again with a double moto win. Yamaha put out a statement last weekend saying that Febvre will not race in Great Britain and Italy, which is a massive shame since Mantova was a track that saw Febvre take a double victory last season. With that said, Antonio Cairoli will probably jump to second place in the standings this weekend, since he is now only 3 points shy of the champ. As for the track, it made its first appearance on the world-stage back in 1991 where American Trampas Parker won. It since has hosted eight rounds of the FIM Motocross World Championship. Antonio Cairoli has won three grand prix’ here, two in MX2, and one in MXGP, in years 07, 08 and 2010. Last years MXGP winner was Romain Febvre, while in MX2 it was Max Anstie. This weekend, the eighth round of the European Championship EMX250 will also take place, as will the sixth round of the European Championship EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing. The FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship will return to Mantova for the first time since 2008 with the fifth round of the 2016 series taking place this weekend too.
Due to the defending champion Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Romain Febvre crashing out of the FULLBACK MXGP of Great Britain last weekend, Honda Gariboldi’s Tim Gajser has stretched out a 74-point lead. Febvre still sits second, but that won’t be for long as Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli is now only 3 points behind. As for Gajser, the numbers and statistics don’t lie. He has now won 6 qualifying races, lead 173 laps, won 11 main events, has a better than 50% win rate for grand prix overalls, 6, and has stood on the box at every single round. It is obvious Gajser is the guy to beat. Finding speed and intensity is not that easy when you are already one of the fastest riders in the world. Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Max Nagl knows better than anyone as he finds himself eager to match the pace of Gajser. The German is currently fourth in the championship, 27 points down on Antonio Cairoli in third and 30 points shy of Febvre in second. Team HRC’s duo of Gautier Paulin and Evgeny Bobryshev are always podium threats and one, if not both, are always lurking around the front of the field. Since Paulin has returned from injury, he seems to be feeling fresh. The Frenchman knows he has more in the tank, so he is satisfied with what he is achieving despite not being 100%. As for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Italian stallion Antonio Cairoli, everything seems a bit fuzzy. The eight-time world champ is far from done, yet he is definitely no longer the guarantee he used to be. TC222 was solid in race one last weekend at Matterley Basin where he finished second place, but his tenth in race two left us puzzled. The former champ later announced on Facebook that he cased the quad and hurt his left wrist. If the damage is not too bad, it should be a good weekend for the home soil hero here. You should also keep an eye on Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s dynamic duo of Jeremy Van Horebeek and Australian wild-card Chad Reed. Van Horebeek, because he is a Belgian and knows how to ride sand, which was evident here last year when he did enough to stand on the second step of the podium, whereas Reed should have blown off some cobwebs and made some changes to the bike. In motocross, when it comes to talking championships and titles, some stories are extremely obvious, while others are slightly subtler. Jeffrey Herlings’ is kind of those obvious ones since he has a commanding lead of 148 points over Jeremy Seewer and has pretty much dominated the championship with 21 from 22 race wins. Although in saying that, we can’t get too carried away because if there is something The Bullet has taught us over the last couple of years, it is that ‘it ain’t over till it’s over’. Jeffrey has never won a grand prix here in Mantova, but since it is sand, it’s likely he will get the job done. But, there are a couple of riders that could make an impact, and they are Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s Dylan Ferrandis and Team Suzuki World MX2’s Jeremy Seewer. “We are always second to Jeffrey and we want to beat him,” Ferrandis said last weekend, “I try my best everytime.” While Ferrandis has managed to beat Jeffrey once this year, and is the only rider to have done so, Seewer was the fastest rider in MX2 last weekend and hit a career milestone with his first point in the Tag Heuer Fastest Lap competition. That achievement alone could be a sign of things to come, and by ‘things’ we mean race wins. Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Pauls Jonass will be stoked to racing on the soft stuff this weekend and will be looking to take home his sixth piece of silverware. The points are tight in the battle for fourth between Wilvo Standing Construct Yamaha’s Aleksandr Tonkovand Kemea Yamaha Official MX Team’s Benoit Paturel with only 5 points separating the two. Both blue boys are similar in speed and have both been on the podium twice so it should make for good racing. It would be mega to see last year’s MX2 grand prix of Lombardia-Italy winner, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Max Anstie, be able to get the job done with Herlings’ on the line. As for the Italian MX2 star TM Racing Factory Team’s Samuele Bernardini, he’s not the biggest fan of the sand, yet he must know that it is something he needs to work on.
