Livia Lancelot ha conquistato oggi il FIM WMX Mondiale Motocross per Kawasaki ad Assen, nel nord Paesi Bassi; dopo il 2008 è il secondo titolo mondiale in verde per il Team 114.

La 28enne francese ha iniziato il week-end in silenzio per guadagnare la quinta scelta del cancello di partenza, ma il suo Kawasaki KX250F le ha fatto ottenere il primo posto alla prima curva, mentre il suo unico rivale rimasto per il titolo è caduto al primo giro. Determinata a non correre rischi Livia ha fatto alcun tentativo di rimanere con i leader della corsa, la tensione nervosa inevitabile come il titolo mondiale in arrivo, l’ha portata a fare molti errori in pista, sabbiosa e tortuosa; lei alla fine ha dovuto cedere il terzo. Anche se più veloce su molte sezioni della pista, non poteva fare un sorpasso per riconquistare il terzo posto e la sua rivale al titolo, ha chiuso sulla sua ruota posteriore in un disperato tentativo di tenere il campionato aperto. Alla fine la ragazza olandese ha toccato la moto di Livia da dietro, ma Livia ha mantenuto il controllo della sua Kawasaki ed la sua rivale cadde. Erano di nuovo vicino all’ultimo giro, ma Livia, con la consapevolezza che il titolo era sicuro se fosse rimasta davanti, è rimasta fredda fino al traguardo per essere accolta dalla sua squadra, la famiglia e gli amici, come campionessa del mondo di motocross 2016 femminile FIM.

Livia Lancelot: “Ho fatto il lavoro che dovevo fare, ma questa gara è stata terribile! Ho fatto una buona partenza, ma la Fontanesi mi ha passato e, dopo un giro ho visto che non ho potuto seguire la Duncan e Fontanesi. Ero così tesa che ho avuto la sensazione che la moto non andasse bene, ma in realtà la moto era perfetta e stavo facendo tanti errori. Sapevo che Van de Ven era caduta in partenza, ma ho anche capito che sarebbe tornata per come stavo guidando così male. Ero terza quando ho fatto un errore; Papenmeier mi ha passato e dopo che non riusciva a tenere un buon ritmo; Ero più veloce di lei in alcuni tratti, ma non sono riuscita a fare la mossa. La Van de Ven è tornata dietro di me e ha cercato di passarmi; Sapevo cosa poteva fare dopo quello che successe a Mantova, e in realtà lei è caduta! Ma era di nuovo dietro di me all’ultimo giro; Sapevo che sarebbe stata dura, ma non ho mai rinunciato e volevo assicurarmi il titolo oggi. Volevo avere una notte tranquilla, e così ho finito davanti a lei assicurandomi il titolo mondiale per la seconda volta nella mia carriera, sempre con la Kawasaki. Ho lavorato duramente per dieci anni, ed è stato ancora più difficile quest’anno, come alcuni giovani ragazze provenienti da tutto il mondo, sono veramente veloci, ma sapevo che tutta la mia esperienza mi avrebbe aiutato, e oggi ho avuto la ricompensa per tutti questi anni di investimenti “.

Kiara Fontanesi “Il mondiale è finito. Una stagione difficile e sfortunata si è conclusa al peggio. Peccato. Ci tenevo a chiudere terza e a giocarmi la vittoria del Gran Premio. Invece le condizioni della pista mi hanno giocato un brutto scherzo. Nella prima manche ho avuto qualche problema al set up ma avevo un buon passo. Nella seconda gara sono partita bene, ma poi ho perso tempo quando tre ragazze si sono fermate davanti a me. In seguito sono caduta e sotto la rampa di un salto non riuscivo più a riavviare la moto. Peccato per come è finita. Sono arrabiata. Però servirà da stimolo per il prossimo anno. Voglio tornare a lottare per il titolo. Complimenti alla Lancelot che ha vinto il mondiale e lo ha meritato. Ora pensiamo a conquistare l’italiano e a lavorare sul 2017”.

Livia Lancelot 2016 WMX World Champion

Livia Lancelot clinched the FIM WMX World Motocross Championship for Kawasaki today at Assen in northern Netherlands; after 2008 it is the second world title in green for the Team 114 girl.

The 28 year old from France started the weekend quietly to earn fifth choice of gate at the start, but her immaculately prepared Kawasaki KX250F got her to the first corner with the leaders while her sole remaining rival for the title fell on the opening lap. Determined not to take any risks Livia made no attempt to stay with the race leaders, and the inevitable nervous tension as the world title came closer led to her making many mistakes on the tortuous sandy track; she eventually came under pressure from behind, surrendering third place as a lapped rider got in her way. Although faster on many sections of the track she could not make a pass stick to regain third place and her title rival, a Dutch girl, closed onto her rear wheel in a desperate attempt to keep the destiny of the championship open. Eventually the Dutch girl touched Livia’s bike from behind, but justice was seen to be done as Livia maintained control of her Kawasaki and her rival fell. They were again close on the final lap, but Livia, in the knowledge that the title was secure if she stayed in front, remained cool to the finish to be greeted by her team, family and friends as 2016 FIM women’s world motocross champion.

Livia Lancelot: “I got the job done, but this race was terrible! I got a good start, but Fontanesi passed me and after one lap I saw that I couldn’t follow Duncan and Fontanesi. I was so tense that I had the feeling that the bike was not running well, but in fact the bike was perfect and I was making so many mistakes. I knew that Van de Ven had a crash at the start, but I also realised that she would come back as I was riding so bad. I was third when I made a mistake behind a lapper; Papenmeier passed me and after that I couldn’t keep a good rhythm; I was faster than her in some sections, but couldn’t make a move. Van de Ven came back behind me and tried to pass me; I knew what she could do after what happened in Mantova, and in fact she crashed! But she was again behind me on the last lap; I knew that it would be tough but I never gave up as I wanted to secure the title today. I wanted to have a quiet night, and as I finished in front of her I secured the world title for the second time in my career, always with Kawasaki. I’ve been working hard for ten years now, and it was even harder this year as some young girls coming to the world Championship are really fast, but I knew that all my experience would help me, and today I got the reward for all these years of investment.”
