Buona lettura!
.
Ciao Joel, come stai?
Tutto bene, grazie.
In quali parti dell’allenamento li aiuti?
Vedremo l’anno prossimo.
Recentemente, abbiamo assistito a 3 GP su tracciati artificiali come Frauenfeld, Assen, Charlotte.
No sicuramente non avrebbe dominato come nell’ultimo GP.

Everything’s fine, thanks.
You seems busy in coaching Thomas (Covington) and Keeno, how is to work with them? In which parts of the training do you help them?
With Keeno I try to do both physical training and moto riding.Con Thomas earlier this year I was involved only in the physical part but now we started to training also on the bike. I have Conrad Mewse also in my team and everything is going well with him.
What are your riders’ goals for next year? Can Keeno get back in the top positions and can Thomas reach the top 5 in the final standings?
Ken at the moment is still dealing with an injury. He firstly has to find a good team for next year, then certainly he can get back in the top 5 or even better in some GP, but mostly I think it can be in the top 10 in every race and be consistent. About Thomas, next year without injuries (this year he broke his foot and hand and then had more back problems) he can fight for the top three positions in the final standings.
NDR (Marc Boone, 24MX Honda team manager, seems to have been willing to confirm also Keeno next year)
What do you think of the level of MXGP and MX2 this year?
The level MXGP is very good, Gajser and Febvre were very fast all year, and even Cairoli and Nagl in some GP. Each track has its own story and in any case in general the level is high. Unfortunately we have seen many injuries. In MX2 Jeffrey obviously is the top, and the level is not equal to 450, but there are still many good drivers. We’ll see next year.
Recently, we have seen three GP on artificial tracks like Frauenfeld, Assen, Charlotte. Do you like the direction taken by the MXGP?
Yes and no. For example in Assen there is a great atmosphere and beautiful infrastructure, could be nice to have some races as well but definitely not the whole calendar should be on these kind of tracks. I think that now they have done a beautiful combination of natural and artificial tracks.
Speaking of safety on the track, Assen was not so good. We have seen Gajser’s crash, it could have had worse consequences. What do you think of this delicate issue?
The problem is that to make it safer (the track) they were supposed to bring much more sand and extend the runway. I think that safety should always be the first priority for the riders, but as you could see, it was not at Assen. Going off the track could hurt really bad that day. I think in other GPs they also did good things, but it depends by every race, also on how they water the track.
Still on this subject, many riders race without back protection (we saw JVH’s back without protection many times). Do you think that the FIM should make mandatory some kind of protection?
No. Definitely not. I can tell you that I had a full protection for the entire back when I fell. I hit the ground with my face first and then the bike hit me on the back causing me a drop of almost 90 ° degrees in my spinal cord and a hard compression. I think the riders should take the protections with which they feel comfortable, not heavy stuff that can clog in the riding, otherwise it will end up falling for this reason. I think that the decision to wear such protection is up only to the rider. Obviously when it is hot they will likely wear less protection, but the rider remains responsible for himself. Years ago they wanted to make compulsory the neck brace, but I tried it and it always bothered me. I would never be able to ride with that protection on me. At the end should be the pilot to decide and you have to feel comfortable with what you’re wearing, otherwise it ends to take away concentration and you can fall for that very reason.
Returning to the races, how did you consider the last two races in America? Webb beat Herlings and Tomac appeared to be on another level.
Yes, it’s true. In MX2 Jeffrey can beat anyone, I think it’s the best because in Charlotte he had just two weeks of training behind. Had he been in better shape would have won or at least fought more in the second moto, but he got tired quickly because he had not enough training behind. In MXGP I think Gajser and Febvre have been fast all year, and in the last two races we have seen Tony in front, while Tim looked a little bit off the pace. I think it depends a lot by the track and how the driver feels at that particular track. But surely Tomac was very fast and on that day and in that track none of the riders could beat him. Maybe if Cairoli were 100% he would have fought more, but it’s hard to be 100% every weekend. We must consider all the circumstances here.
Do you think Tomac could replicate his performance also in Maggiora?
No definitely he would not have dominated like the last GP. Maggiora is a completely different type of track where you can not attack like in Glen Helen. So definitely it would not have dominated so.
Which Nation do you think will be the favorite for this weekend?
It’s difficult to say. America hasn’t its best team, but they will fight for the podium certainly. For France, if Paulin rides as he usually did in the Nations will be very in the fight for the win. Unfortunately this year he had a bad season and it will be difficult. Belgium lost Desalle then things get even more complicated for them. The surprise could be the Netherlands. If Bogers manages to put together two good motos, we know that Jeffrey is fast and Coldenhoff is riding very well recently, so they can make a good result.
P.S. What about Team Italy? Can Tony win his class?
Surely he can do it, if he is in good shape he can beat everyone and everywhere. This year he had many injuries and he was not the quickest, but if he has a good setup for Maggiora and feels fit, will fight for the top in its class.
