Kevin Strijbos interview : “Non vedo l’ora di svelarvi la nuova moto!”

Il nostro Ryan Introvigne si è messo al lavoro con una bellissima intervista all’ufficiale Suzuki, Kevin Strijbos, il quale gli ha raccontato un po’ di cose, la prima che ci salta all’orecchio è che useranno la NUOVA SUZUKI 2018 per la stagione Mondiale Motocross 2k17!

Ciao Kevin, come stai? Raccontaci come sta andando la tua preparazione invernale.
Tutto bene, grazie. La preparazione sta andando abbastanza bene. Ho cambiato il physical trainer ed ho lavorato sulle cose basilari, come ogni inverno. Mi sono concesso una lunga pausa lontano dalla moto, ne sentivo la necessità. Ho ricominciato a guidare verso metà dicembre e siamo andati in Spagna col team all’inizio di gennaio.

Ora siete in 3 in famiglia con il piccolo 🙂 Com’è cambiata la tua vita ora? Dormi di meno 😀 ?
Sicuramente sono molto felice con Jayden. E’ stato un feeling fantastico poterlo tenere in braccio per la prima volta. Al momento la mia vita non è cambiata molto perchè sono stato solo un mese a casa e poi son partito per la Spagna. Quando stai lontano per così tanto tempo, ti manca la famiglia. Ma fa parte del nostro lavoro e dobbiamo concentrarci lo stesso. 
Riguardo alle notti insonni, a dire il vero non ne ho avute molte perchè Yentl si prende sempre cura di Jayden durante la notte e lo allatta, cosa che io non posso fare ahaha. Ma ho cercato comunque di aiutarla durante la giornata ed alla sera. Sono davvero impressionato di come riesca ad organizzarsi e fare tutto da sola quando non ci sono. Gliene sono davvero grato.

Il 2016 è stato un anno di sensazioni contrastanti, l’infortunio al polso e qualche risultato altalenante, ma hai finito la stagione con due note positive: la fantastica performance al MXON e la vittoria del titolo MX1 del Campionato Belga. Com’è stata per te?
Si la stagione non è andata come avremmo voluto. Abbiamo avuto un inizio di stagione difficile, poi le cose son migliorate in Lettonia e la settimana dopo nel GP di Spagna sono caduto molte volte, mi sono infortunato al polso ed ho dovuto fare alcune settimane di pausa. Poi la vittoria a Lommel è stata fantastica. Per tanti anni abbiamo lavorato duramente per fare bene a Lommel e non ci siamo riusciti, quest’anno siamo arrivati con zero aspettative perchè erano settimane che non guidavo la moto, ed ho vinto!! Ho dovuto aspettare 9 anni per un’altra vittoria…davvero a lungo!
Poi il titolo belga per la prima volta! Al Nazioni tutto sembrava andare di nuovo per il meglio, ho guidato libero, senza stress ed ho ottenuto buoni risultati quindi è stato bello finire così questa stagione di alti e bassi.

Stefan aveva detto che avrebbe corso solo la squadra MX2 al REDSAND MX Park questo weekend. Quando sarà il vostro debutto?
Si il piano era quello, ma alla fine ci saremo anche noi della 450 (Strijbos e Jasikonis NDR). (Purtroppo a causa meteo difficile la gara è stata annullata già da oggi NDR2.)

Abbiamo sentito dei rumours su una nuova moto che potrebbe debuttare ad Hawkstone Park, forse il m.y. 2018? Ci puoi dire qualcosa e se si, l’hai già provata?
Non posso dirvi molto ovviamente ma sveleremo la nuova moto il venerdì prima di Hawkstone Park. Sono davvero eccitato di mostrarvela. L’abbiamo testata subito dopo il MXON ed è piuttosto differente, è molto più leggera ed ancora più facile da guidare..dobbiamo ancora fare qualche test ma non vedo l’ora di correrci.

Qual è il tuo obiettivo per la stagione?
Difficile dire una posizione,voglio fare bene e guidare al mio meglio. Ci sono molti giovani in MXGP che alzeranno ancora il livello ma penso che possa stare ancora là davanti con loro anche con i miei 31 anni di età. Devo semplicemente mettermi a testa bassa e dare gas!!

Hi Kevin, how are you? Tell us about your winter preparation for the upcoming season.
I’m fine, thank you. Winter preparation went pretty good. I changed my physical trainer and worked on the basic things like every winter.
Took a pretty long break off the bike, i felt i needed it. Started to ride a little bit half december and then went to Spain with the team from beginning of January.

Now you are three in the family with the little baby :-) how life has changed for you? less sleeping :D ?
For sure i’m really happy with Jayden. It was a fantastic feeling when i could hold him for the first time. At this moment life hasn’t changed so much cause i was only one month home and then left to Spain. But when you have to leave for a month then you really miss your family.
But it’s part of the job so we also have to focus on that. About the sleepless nights, i actually didn’t had a lot cause Yentl always took care of Jayden in the night because she was giving breastfeeding and that’s something i couldn’t do. haha. But i tried to help as much as I could during the day and evenings. Really impressed with how Yentl does it when im not there! Thanks for that!

2016 was a year of mixed feelings, the wrist injury and some up n down results, but you ended the season really strong with the Belgium Championship title and the fantastic performance at MXON. How was that for you?
Yeah season went not how we wanted it. We had a really difficult start of the season and then things went a bit better in Latvia and the week later i crashed a lot during the GP of Spain and injured my wrist so had to take a few weeks of. Then the win in Lommel was fantastic. 
For so many years we worked a lot to be good in lommel and it never happened, this year we came with zero expectations cause i wasn’triding that long after my injury. So maybe that had something to do with it. I had to sit 9 years for another win, thats really long!! And then the Belgian title i took for the first time! At the MXON everything seemed to click again. i was riding free, no stress and got good results there so it was i nice way to finish this up and down season.

Stefan mentioned MX2 squad will race RedSand MX, but not sure on the 450 guys. When your debut will be?
Yeah the plan was we didn’t ride the RedSand race but in the end we will do it.

There were rumours about racing at Hawkstone Park with a completely new bike, maybe Model year 2018? Can you tell us something? If yes, have you already tested it?
I can’t tell a lot about that but we will unveil the bike friday before hawkstone park. I’m very excited to show it. Yeah we tested the bike straight after the MXON and it feels different, a lot lighter, even easier to handle…
We will still need some time to test it more but i can’t wait to ride it. Just wait and see.

What will be your goal this season?
Its difficult to say a place but i just wanna do good for myself and ride like i know i can. There are many young guys in the MXGP class and they take it to the next level but i think i can still battle with the guys up front even i am 31 of age. Just have to put my head down and gas it!!
