MXGP PODIO

Gautier Paulin: “Un GP straordinario.

MXGP PODIUM

Gautier Paulin“It’s been an amazing GP. We started off with a good pace in qualifying. I was feeling good on the bike ever since I stepped foot on this track, so I was very positive of some good results. We had a perfect opening moto. I got a clear holeshot and managed to successfully defend my lead until the finish line. Despite not getting the best of starts in moto two, I stayed focused on the goal of winning the overall. I kept pushing and as soon as I saw other riders suffering physically I gave one last push for the overall victory. I honestly have no words to thank my Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing team for all their hard work and dedication. This victory has given us a big confidence boost for the races to come.”

Jeffrey Herlings: “I won here for seven years in a row and although things have not been good lately I think the fans were still expecting a podium and that’s what we did. It seemed to be close to the win. We had a really difficult start For the season with the broken hand and we were in the race anyway, but we were not really in the lead and I just went from GP to GP I felt depressed I was in positions I did not want to be and I felt embarrassed, But now I have been in motion a few weeks so I can work to be the best and better and get back to the shape we should be. I did not expect these guys [MXGP] to be so fast and it’s like a war out of the way Where the gate goes down to the final flag and is something I’m not used to. But we’re recovering speed and we just have to start rolling together. ”

Jeremy Van Horebeek: “I got a virus in Mexico and I was really sick. I lost 4 kilograms and I though it was over but then again today I got stomach cramps. I actually felt really good in the second race and I thought at one point ‘ok let’s go for the win’, but then my health decided otherwise. I am very happy to be on the podium again, and to have this sort of consistency. It will pay off at the end of the season.”

MX2 PODIUM

Pauls Jonass: “I felt good all weekend and we have made improvements today at all times with the bike. I really enjoyed the track although it was difficult and pretty uncomfortable in some places because it was difficult with some points but It was nice to go around. I got better in the first half. I like to drive here and go home with 1-1 means I’m still looking at my home GP the next one. ”

Jeremy Seewer: “I think we made the best out of the day, after yesterday’s performance. We turned it around with two good starts, that would have been right up there had I had a good gate pick. Both motos I came from like 15th and immediately passed so many riders so that was a good point from today. First moto my setup wasn’t quite on point so I had to settle for fourth, rather than push on for third but it was still good to get some confidence back after yesterday. Then in the second moto we made some good changes on the bike which made my RM-Z250 really good for this track. I was even better on the start and passed the other riders even quicker and got up to second. I even managed to cut Pauls Jonass’ lead at the front which was a nice feeling. Overall I think it was a positive day, despite losing some points in the championship. To be able to come back from Saturday’s result, and only lose a few points is acceptable. The next round is Latvia and I really like that track so I’m looking forward to doing even better there.”

Brent Van doninck: “I had a bad start, so it took a lot of energy. In the second race I had a better start, inside the top ten, so I could ride freer. I managed to get up to third and at one point I was closer to Jeremy Seewer but then he must have found another gear. I am really happy to be on the podium, my first of the year, and it’s good for the championship too.”

OTHER RIDERS

Antonio Cairoli: “Here at Valkenswaard after a perfect qualification I was pointing to the double win, unfortunately the start of race one was negative and then I lost positions blocked by the motion of another pilot on the ground. I was refreshing and I had a great step when I had eye sight problems for the sand that came in my glasses, fired from the rear wheel of another pilot’s bike. I closed ninth with a lot of anger. In race two I still got annoying to the eye, but I started in the head and I could handle the run smoothly. I got some points in the standings but not what I wanted. Now let’s think about Kegums continuing to work the best. ”

Tim Gajser: Today was ok. I made some big mistakes in the first race when I was second and I couldn’t come back to find my rhythm and I finished sixth which I was a little bit disappointed with. The second race was better, even though I didn’t have the best start. I came from seventh back to fourth which was good so I will take some important points away from this race and refocus for Latvia. If I am honest I didn’t like that track at all so I am glad this is done and I am really looking forward to racing in Latvia and having a one week break at home.
Evgeny Bobryshev: I had a really good start in both races today and have been riding in second place for both of them but unfortunately I wasn’t able to hold it in either. In the first race I finished fourth as I made some mistakes in the last few laps. I did manage to catch up again and all the group finished really close together. The second race was more frustrating for me. I was running in second place at a good pace with a gap behind me of three seconds. Then, with five laps to go I went sideways a few times on the bike and five guys passed me on one lap. I couldn’t fight to get back the places which was tough. I was really motivated to be running for a podium today but it just didn’t end well for me. Finishing like this isn’t the way for me, I am really grateful to all the work HRC has done for me this weekend. I have to forget about this for the next race and learn from my mistakes.

Glenn Coldenhoff: “To be honest, I can not say anything happy about the results, also because I did very good start but I could not take my rhythm in the first laps, losing several positions. As a positive aspect, I did several laps at good speed but I did not find continuity. I wanted to do better in front of my audience. ”

Romain Febvre: “It didn’t start good for me, in the first moto I had arm-pump and only managed to finish eleventh. The postive from the weekend was my starts. I took two good starts and in the second race I could follow, but I didn’t have enough to pass the front guys. It’s getting better.”

Arnaud Tonus: “The speed was there all weekend. I had a crash yesterday Gautier Paulin and I hit in the air and I fell and hurt my arm, but actually this was not a problem it was just that my starts weren’t great and then I crashed in the first race. I pushed really hard, and got back to fourteenth. The top ten was really close in speed, and my lap time was not too bad, but it was difficult. I did my best, it wasn’t a great weekend but I just need to accept it and look forward to the next race.”

Shaun Simpson: “It was weird because everyone seemed to be on the same pace. I gave most of what I had, I didn’t have much left in the tank. I was fighting right to the end. It seemed like everyone was coming and going a lot. Starts were key, but you then had to keep your position. Mistakes cost me, I crashed in the first race and that just set the tone and I just ended up eating roost the whole race. In the second one it was much of the same. I stalled it and lost a lot of time and spent the whole moto pulling back the time I lost. It felt like a lot of work for nothing. I’m fed up beating myself up over results like this, so I’m gonna go back to the drawing board and look forward to Kegums, Latvia.”
Michele Cervellin: Today wasn’t the best race but I have a problem with my hand so i have been trying to work through this. The first Moto was terrible for me, I was not happy with my result. I managed to get more comfortable on the bike in the second race as we made a few changes which gave me a better overall finish. It still isn’t where I want to be or where I know I can be. I need to start training again as since my hand injury I haven’t been training as I was before and this will get me back to where I should be.

Benoit Paturel: “My weekend was okay. Not the result I want but I need to work on my starts and try to do better next week.”

Alvin Östlund: “I expected a little bit more from here because it is one of my favourite tracks. I really like the track here and I normally ride good here. I was looking for two solid moto’s, but for now, I am happy.”

Arminas Jasikonis: “It’s been a really good day” said the Lithuanian rider, “I finally got some better results and my riding was better, my starts were better and I was able to compete with those guys. I struggled physically in the second moto so I wasn’t able to battle with the top five but overall I am very happy with the day. I know I need to keep working and to keep pushing myself so that I can battle for two races and on different surfaces but everyone is really positive about the weekend and that is a great feeling. I want to thank the whole Suzuki World MXGP team for all the help and for making my RM-Z450WS a great machine, which allowed me to ride so well on this tricky track. However we can’t stop after a result like this, we must keep getting better and putting in the work so that it can happen at the next rounds too.”

Kevin Strijbos: “I was in a lot of pain due to the tear in the tendon of my elbow so we decided to have an injection. It felt a lot better after that, but after two or three laps the pain came back so I had to hold on a lot more with my left hand to compensate for the lack of feeling in the right. However this caused me to get arm pump and I crashed and despite trying for a few more laps, I couldn’t catch up so I pulled off. I think this is the first time I’ve had to pull out of a moto myself which is a shame but after speaking with the doctor, I have another appointment on Monday morning to see how it is. This appointment will then decide if I need surgery to try and get it fixed, so we will see after this what happens.”

Petar Petrov: “This GP was better than the last one. I don’t feel that I have the speed to race for a top three yet but I can feel the improvements and I think that it will be even better in Latvia in two weeks time. I didn’t race for several weeks, so I didn’t have the opportunity to dial in my bike like I would prefer on some places. But we saw from yesterday to today that the team did a good job and I was happy with my bike for the race. We’re going in the right direction and I must say that mentally I also feel better because today we were in the top ten with pretty good starts. It’s a good motivation to keep on working for the coming weekends, and now I can’t wait to race again and be battling in the top five.”

Save Brylyakov: “I had a perfect qualifying day with first position in the free practice session, third in the timed practice and fourth in the qualifying race after a good start and a consistent race. Today started well with the third position in the warm up with easy riding, but my start was not too good in the first moto; a guy crashed in front of me and then I had to come back from sixteenth to eighth. In the second moto I was pushing through the pack on the first lap and had already passed into the top ten by the fifth corner; but then I made a mistake and another rider jumped on my shoulder. I couldn’t really move the fingers after the incident and it was scary; the first examinations don’t reveal any fracture or dislocation but I will have further consultations on Monday.

Darian Sanayei: “This weekend was not so bad. In the qualifying race I was really bad at the start but came back to sixteenth, so it was a pretty strong ride. Then today I had a slight fever from crashing yesterday morning. I had a pretty good start but in the third corner another rider took my front wheel and put me down. I was dead last, and just worked my way to fifteenth which was not a good result but a strong ride. I think I used too much energy because I was pretty tired for the second race; I got another good start in fifth, rode third for a couple of laps but then my body was a little bit too weak to keep this position.”

Adam Sterry: « We made some good improvements during the week and being back in the sand I was confident for a good weekend. I showed this in moto one until I hit another rider while in fifth and twisted my knee. Hopefully nothing really serious but we will have it checked on Monday to make sure.”

Clement Desalle: “Once more the start was the key to the races, and twice I was in the top ten but that’s not enough to finish on the box. The first race was OK with a seventh position, even if it’s not what I expect, but in the second one I had a crash and lost four positions. I struggled to find a good rhythm today; I had a better feeling on Saturday when I qualified in fifth position.”

Maxime Desprey: “It was a tough weekend. As I was sick this week I couldn’t train in the sand so I knew that it would be difficult, but the feeling was better after each session even if I qualified only in twenty-second position. In both races I was fighting for a top twenty result, but in the last ten minutes of each race I felt tired and lost several positions.”

Max Nagl“Our speed was not so bad, but we struggled with the starts in both motos. If you don’t get a good start it’s really hard to make up time – you have to take lots of risks to go after the guys out front. I tried my best in both motos but it just wasn’t meant to be. We’ll keep working hard hoping for some better results at the GPs to come. We’re now heading to Kegums and another sand track and the goal is to be able to battle for the top three there.”

Thomas Kjer-Olsen: “We’re in a very good place right now. I’m enjoying racing my bike and my speed is really competitive. If we manage to minimise mistakes, we will be able to consistently be on the podium. In moto one I got a good start but as I was battling for the top five I was involved in a crash with a few other riders. I picked myself up and kept pushing hard to get ninth. My start wasn’t as good in moto two, but without making any mistakes I crossed the line in fourth for fourth overall at the GP. We’re fourth now in the standings and I believe we can go even higher.”

Thomas Covington“My riding was good throughout the weekend despite the rough sandy track. Following a strong sixth place in qualifying race I got off to a good start in moto one and managed to make some good passes for third at the finish line. Towards the end of the moto I felt a bit of pain in my back but I tried not to let that affect my performance and my lap times. To finish third felt good and I was looking forward to moto two. Unfortunately, my start was bad in the last moto and as I was pushing to make passes I crashed and bent my bars. The championship still has a long way to go. We proved the speed is there so it’s up to me now to reduce mistakes and be more consistent.”

Conrad Mewse“Overall, I’m satisfied with my speed over the weekend. We started off with a strong ninth place during qualifying and a good overall feeling on the rough sandy track. Battling through a bad start in moto one I had to settle for 20th. My start was way better in moto two and I was running in fourth place before crashing in one of the big downhills of the track. I picked myself up but couldn’t manage anything better than 22nd. My results might not have been great but I’m happy with my pace, especially towards the end of the first moto.”
