MXGP: GAUTIER PAULIN VINCE IL GP D’EUROPA A VALKENSWAARD

Il pilota Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing Gautier Paulin ha ottenuto la sua prima vittoria nel campionato del mondo di Motocross FIM 2017, grazie a una netta vittoria in Gara1 seguita da un secondo posto in Gara2 all’MXGP d’Europa, in Olanda.

Sull’iconico tracciato sabbioso di Valkenswaard, dove si è svolto il sesto round del Mondiale, Paulin ha iniziato il GP con una solida terza piazza nella gara di qualificazione. Realizzando poi con la sua FC 450 una partenza perfetta nella manche di apertura della MXGP, il francese ha mantenuto il comando della gara dall’inizio alla fine, arrivando così a celebrare la sua prima vittoria di manche con una Husqvarna.

Ben piazzato all’interno della top 5 anche all’inizio di Gara2, Gautier ha subito mostrato la sua determinazione a lottare per la vittoria di giornata. Grazie ad alcuni importanti sorpassi, è riuscito a tagliare il traguardo in seconda posizione dietro ad Antonio Cairoli. Grazie a questo GP ben studiato, il francese ha guadagnato due posizioni nella classifica di campionato MXGP, dove è attualmente al terzo posto dietro a Tim Gajser e Cairoli.

Non riuscendo a prodursi in partenze delle migliori, l’altro pilota Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing in MXGP, Max Nagl, ha ottenuto il decimo posto di giornata nel GP d’Europa. Dopo una decima piazza conclusiva nella prima manche, il tedesco ha concluso la gara con un undicesimo posto in Gara2. Il terzo pilota in MXGP, Max Anstie, ha dovuto saltare il GP per infortunio.

Nella classe MX2, questo è stato un weekend di alterne emozioni per il pilota Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing Thomas Kjer-Olsen. Mostrando di avere la velocità per lottare per il podio, il giovane danese ha conquistato la quarta piazza complessiva nella classe 250. Al termine di una prima manche in rimonta dopo una caduta mentre occupava la sesta posizione, Thomas ha tagliato il traguardo in nona posizione. A seguito di una partenza mediocre nella seconda manche, ha poi conquistato il quarto posto grazie a una serie di spettacolari sorpassi.

Per Thomas Covington, il culmine del suo GP a Valkenswaard è un ottimo terzo posto nella prima manche MX2. Dopo aver piegato il manubrio in una caduta, il giovane americano non è riuscito a concludere l’ultima gara della giornata.

Una pessima partenza in Gara1 e una caduta in Gara2 non hanno consentito a Conrad Mewse di mettere a frutto la migliore velocità mostrata dall’inglese nel precedente GP in Italia. Con un 20/22, Conrad ha dovuto accontentarsi del venticinquesimo posto finale nel GP d’Europa.

Il team Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing tornerà ora in azione alla settima tappa del campionato del mondo di Motocross FIM 2017, in Lituania il prossimo 6-7 maggio.

Gautier Paulin: “Un GP straordinario. Siamo partiti con un buon passo già in qualifica. Mi sono sentito bene sulla moto non appena ho messo piede su questo tracciato, per cui mi aspettavo buoni risultati. La prima manche è stata perfetta: ho realizzato un netto holeshot per poi difendere la prima posizione fino al traguardo. E pur non essendo partito al meglio in Gara2, sono rimasto concentrato sull’obiettivo di vincere la giornata. Ho continuato a spingere, e non appena ho visto altri piloti in difficoltà fisica, ho dato l’ultimo colpo di reni per la vittoria finale. Non ho davvero parole per ringraziare il mio team Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing team per tutto il loro duro lavoro e la loro dedizione. Questa vittoria ci dà una grande fiducia per le prossime gare.”

Max Nagl: “Quanto a velocità non ero male, ma ho faticato con le partenze in entrambe le manche. Se non parti bene oggi è molto difficile recuperare, devi prendere un sacco di rischi per raggiungere i ragazzi davanti. Ho fatto del mio meglio in entrambe le mahche, ma non era proprio giornata. Continueremo a lavorare sodo sperando che vada meglio nelle prossime gare. Ora correremo a Kegums, un’altra pista di sabbia, e il mio obiettivo laggiù è di lottare per il podio.”

Thomas Kjer-Olsen: “In questo momento siamo messi molto bene. Mi diverto sulla moto e la mia velocità è davvero competitiva. Se riusciremo a minimizzare gli errori, potremo salire costantemente sul podio. In Gara1 sono partito bene, ma mentre lottavo per la top 5 sono rimasto coinvolto in una caduta con alcuni altri piloti. Mi sono rialzato e ho attaccato fino in fondo, arrivando nono. In Gara2 non sono partito altrettanto bene, ma senza fare errori sono riuscito a tagliare il traguardo in quarta posizione, per una quarta piazza finale nel GP. Ora sono quarto nel mondiale, e credo di poter puntare anche più in alto.”

Thomas Covington: “Ho guidato bene per tutto il weekend, nonostante la pista sabbiosa e rovinata. Dopo un buon sesto posto nella manche di qualificazione, sono partito bene in Gara1 riuscendo a fare anche qualche bel sorpasso, arrivando terzo al traguardo. Verso la fine della manche ho iniziato ad avere mal di schiena, ma ho cercato che la cosa non condizionasse la mia guida e le mie prestazioni. Finire terzo è stato bello, e non vedevo l’ora di correre Gara2. Sfortunatamente, però, sono partito male e mentre attaccavo per superare altri piloti sono caduto piegando il manubrio. Il campionato comunque è ancora molto lungo, ho mostrato che la velocità c’è e ora sta a me di ridurre gli errori ed essere più costante.”

Conrad Mewse: “Nel complesso, sono soddisfatto della mia velocità durante il weekend. Abbiamo iniziato con un bel nono posto in qualifica, ed un buon feeling complessivo su questa difficile pista sabbiosa. Dopo la brutta partenza in Gara1 ho dovuto accontentarmi del ventesimo posto. In Gara2 sono partito molto meglio, ed ero quarto quando sono caduto in una delle lunghe discese della pista. Mi sono rialzato, ma non sono riuscito a far meglio di ventiduesimo. Nonostante questi risultati non meravigliosi, sono contento del mio passo di gara, soprattutto verso la fine della prima manche.”

GAUTIER PAULIN WINS MXGP OF EUROPE

ROCKSTAR ENERGY HUSQVARNA FACTORY RACING RIDER CLIMBS TO THIRD IN MXGP STANDINGS FOLLOWING INSPIRING PERFORMANCE IN VALKENSWAARD
Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Gautier Paulin has secured his first GP victory of the 2017 FIM Motocross World Championship, claiming an emphatic opening moto win and securing a runner-up result in moto two at the MXGP of Europe in The Netherlands.

With round six of the world championship taking place at the iconic sandy track of Valkenswaard, Paulin started the GP claiming a strong third place result in the qualifying race. Getting a perfect start on his FC 450 in the opening MXGP moto, the Frenchman retained the lead from start to finish to celebrate his first moto victory aboard Husqvarna machinery.

Well-placed inside the top five at the start of moto two, Gautier showed his determination to battle for the overall victory. Making some crucial passes he managed to cross the finish line as a runner-up behind Antonio Cairoli. Completing a well-calculated GP the Frenchman gained two spots in the MXGP championship standings, where he’s now placed third behind Tim Gajser and Cairoli.

Not getting the best of starts, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Max Nagl pushed hard to claim 10th overall at the GP of Europe. Getting a 10th place result in the opening moto, the German wrapped up the event with 11th in moto two.

In the MX2 category, it was an event of mixed emotions for Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Thomas Kjer-Olsen. Showing he has the speed to battle for the top three, the young Dane earned fourth overall in the 250cc class. Battling back from a crash while running sixth in moto one, Thomas reached the finish in ninth position. Getting a mediocre start in moto two, he made a series of impressive passes to claim fourth.

For Thomas Covington the highlight of his GP in Valkenswaard was a strong third place result in the opening MX2 moto. Bending his bars during a crash in moto two, the young American was unable to finish his last race of the day.

A poor start in moto one and a crash in moto two didn’t allow Conrad Mewse the opportunity to capitalise on the improved speed the Brit demonstrated during the previous GP in Italy. Collecting 20/22 results, Conrad had to settle for 25th overall at the GP of Europe.

The Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing team will return to action at round seven of the 2017 FIM Motocross World Championship in Latvia on May 6/7.

Gautier Paulin: “It’s been an amazing GP. We started off with a good pace in qualifying. I was feeling good on the bike ever since I stepped foot on this track, so I was very positive of some good results. We had a perfect opening moto. I got a clear holeshot and managed to successfully defend my lead until the finish line. Despite not getting the best of starts in moto two, I stayed focused on the goal of winning the overall. I kept pushing and as soon as I saw other riders suffering physically I gave one last push for the overall victory. I honestly have no words to thank my Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing team for all their hard work and dedication. This victory has given us a big confidence boost for the races to come.”

Max Nagl: “Our speed was not so bad, but we struggled with the starts in both motos. If you don’t get a good start it’s really hard to make up time – you have to take lots of risks to go after the guys out front. I tried my best in both motos but it just wasn’t meant to be. We’ll keep working hard hoping for some better results at the GPs to come. We’re now heading to Kegums and another sand track and the goal is to be able to battle for the top three there.”

Thomas Kjer-Olsen: “We’re in a very good place right now. I’m enjoying racing my bike and my speed is really competitive. If we manage to minimise mistakes, we will be able to consistently be on the podium. In moto one I got a good start but as I was battling for the top five I was involved in a crash with a few other riders. I picked myself up and kept pushing hard to get ninth. My start wasn’t as good in moto two, but without making any mistakes I crossed the line in fourth for fourth overall at the GP. We’re fourth now in the standings and I believe we can go even higher.”

Thomas Covington: “My riding was good throughout the weekend despite the rough sandy track. Following a strong sixth place in qualifying race I got off to a good start in moto one and managed to make some good passes for third at the finish line. Towards the end of the moto I felt a bit of pain in my back but I tried not to let that affect my performance and my lap times. To finish third felt good and I was looking forward to moto two. Unfortunately, my start was bad in the last moto and as I was pushing to make passes I crashed and bent my bars. The championship still has a long way to go. We proved the speed is there so it’s up to me now to reduce mistakes and be more consistent.”

Conrad Mewse: “Overall, I’m satisfied with my speed over the weekend. We started off with a strong ninth place during qualifying and a good overall feeling on the rough sandy track. Battling through a bad start in moto one I had to settle for 20th. My start was way better in moto two and I was running in fourth place before crashing in one of the big downhills of the track. I picked myself up but couldn’t manage anything better than 22nd. My results might not have been great but I’m happy with my pace, especially towards the end of the first moto.”
