STRIJBOS CONFIRMS SUZUKI LINK AT LOMMEL MXGP
Promotions Geboers Racing ha confermato i servizi di Kevin Strijbos per i prossimi due anni, con Rockstar Energy Suzuki Mondiale MXGP e si prepara per il suo Gran Premio di casa del Belgio questo fine settimana nella sabbia di Lommel.
Il 14 ° appuntamento dei 18 nel Campionato del Mondo Motocross 2015 si svolgerà sul circuito impegnativo a pochi chilometri dalla sede del team e da dove Strijbos e l’equipaggio factory tenteranno la serie 2016 e 2017 MXGP insieme.
Strijbos ha goduto dei migliori anni della sua carriera in corsa per Suzuki. L’associazione ha avuto inizio nel 2002 con un RM125, progredito a un RM250 nel 2003 e poi per il passaggio a quattro tempi con la tecnologia RM-Z 2004-2007 dove ha segnato la prima 450cc vittoria di Gran Premio e finito come runner-up due volte nella classe regina del campionato del mondo. Strijbos è tornato alla squadra nel 2013 ed è stato terzo nel MXGP nel 2014 oltre a vincere una manche al Motocross delle Nazioni. Ora 29 anni, il belga è probabilmente al massimo della sua forma fisica e di esperienza e ha registrato tre risultati da podio dopo il suo ritorno da un infortunio al polso e del pollice all’inizio di questa stagione.
“Alla fine non è stata una decisione difficile rimanere con la squadra e un gruppo di persone con cui siamo cresciuti,” ‘# 22’, ha detto. “I ragazzi, tutti, funzionano così bene e sono così duri e mi conoscono e sanno di cosa ho bisogno. La moto è così competitiva e sono stato in grado di farla mia nell’ultimo paio di stagioni. Mi sono ambientato e sono felice. Non vedo l’ora di fare il meglio che posso nei prossimi due anni “.
Con il suo futuro confermato Strijbos può guardare avanti per la sua gara di casa questo fine settimana a Lommel e la sabbia incredibile, dove ha visto il veterano prendere la quinta posizione nel 2014. “E ‘strano, ma ogni volta che andiamo a Lommel faccio fatica ad ottenere un buon feeling lì” ha ammesso. “E ‘un GP difficile per me, anche se io sono un buon pilota di sabbia! Lommel è qualcosa di speciale. Abbiamo fatto alcuni test laggiù e voglio avere una buona partenza e non spingere troppo in principio come ho fatto l’anno scorso. Sarebbe bello se posso essere sul podio in Belgio. ”
La squadra e l’intero orologio Suzuki lambisce con l’inverno a Lommel; una pista di fama che usano come base di prova dura. Il terreno potrebbe essere una prospettiva più difficile pe il compagno di squadra Clement Desalle. Il belga ha avuto un terzo posto tonificante al suo ritorno da un infortunio al ginocchio lo scorso fine settimana nella Repubblica Ceca, ma Lommel sarà un diverso insieme di condizioni rispetto al tracciato di Loket. “Non so come sarà, ma sarà difficile per certo,” ha detto. “Farò del mio meglio e cercare di divertirmi. Tutti sanno che, anche quando si è al 100% un GP sulla sabbia come Lommel è difficile! Lo prendo con un sorriso. ”
Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europa duo Glenn Coldenhoff e Jeremy Seewer avranno diversi approcci nei confronti del dispositivo belga. L’ultima volta che sono andati in GP su una superficie con una consistenza di sabbia (Kegums in Lettonia) Coldenhoff ha preso la sua prima vittoria nella categoria con due partenze taglienti e velocità eccellente. L’olandese conosce la sua ‘# 259’ RM-Z450 per vedere se può ancora essere uno dei leader a Lommel. “Ho visto un sacco di ragazzi lì nelle ultime settimane e penso che [Gautier] Paulin e [Romain] Febvre saranno forti”, ha detto prima di dare la propria visione sorprendente sulla corsa belga. “In realtà non mi piace il layout della pista di Lommel. Penso che sia pronto per un cambiamento. Non mi piace ad essere onesto, ma non guido da molto li, ci sono appena stato nelle ultime due settimane e mi sentivo bene, vedremo.”
Seewer d’altra parte è desideroso di ottenere la sfida. Il 21 anni di età svizzero ha trasformato a pieno Pro questa volta dallo scorso anno, quando ha terminato gli studi e per la prima volta nella sua carriera è riuscito a dedicare un inverno di allenamento e preparazione, basato soprattutto sulla sabbia. Il ‘# 91’ ha cambiato il suo ritmo e l’efficienza ad un nuovo livello ed è ora ansioso di vedere quali risultati si possono inserire, pur mantenendo un occhio alla classifica del campionato del mondo MX2 dove si trova a soli 30 punti dal secondo posto.
“Mi sento abbastanza bene a Lommel,” dice. “Abbiamo avuto una buona gara di sabbia al Tensfeld nella ADAC. Forse un podio sarà difficile perché ci sono alcuni ragazzi che sono veramente a casa sulla sabbia, ma nei primi cinque sarà l’obiettivo così come ottenere una sensazione confortevole. Ho provato molto in inverno sulla sabbia e, probabilmente, guiderò l’80% dei miei allenamenti; Penso che sarà pay-off lì. È un lavoro duro, ma se si trova un buon flusso si può anche godere. È sempre necessario cercare di trovare il lato divertente di esso. ”
Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europa sarà inoltre affiancata da piloti EMX250 Campionato Europeo Brian Hsu e Bas Vaessen per l’ottava prova delle nove della serie. Hsu ha scritto la sua prima vittoria l’ultima volta RM-Z250 tre settimane fa in Lettonia e Vaessen è in corso anche con i leader per la prima volta in questa stagione. Il giovane olandese è sicuro di essere competitivo ancora una volta a Lommel.
Le previsioni meteo per il fine settimana prevede condizioni luminose e soleggiate per il giorno della gara.

Geboers Racing Promotions has confirmed the services of Kevin Strijbos for the next two years as Rockstar Energy Suzuki World MXGP prepare for its home Grand Prix of Belgium this weekend in the sand of Lommel.
The 14th round of 18 in the 2015 FIM Motocross World Championship will take place at the demanding circuit a few kilometres from the team’s workshop and from where Strijbos and the factory crew will attempt the 2016 and 2017 MXGP series together.
Strijbos has enjoyed the best years of his career racing for Suzuki. The association began in 2002 with an RM125, progressed to an RM250 in 2003 and then on four-stroke RM-Z technology from 2004-2007 where he posted the factory’s first 450cc Grand Prix victory and finished as runner-up twice in the premier class of the world championship. Strijbos returned to the team in 2013 and was third in MXGP in 2014 as well as winning a moto at the Motocross of Nations. Now 29 years old, the Belgian is arguably at the peak of his fitness and experience and posted three podium results since his return from wrist and thumb injury earlier this season.
“In the end it was not a hard decision to stay with the team and a group of people that I have grown up with,” ‘#22’ said. “The guys all work so well and so hard and know me and what I need. The bike is so competitive and I’ve been able to make it mine in the last couple of seasons. I’m settled and I’m happy. I’m looking forward to doing the best I can in the next two years.”
With his future confirmed Strijbos can look ahead to his home event this weekend at Lommel and the swallowing sand saw the veteran take fifth position in 2014. “It is strange but every time we go to Lommel I struggle to get a good feeling there,” he admitted. “It is a hard GP for me even if I am a good sand rider! Lommel is something special. We’ve done some tests over there and I want to have good starts and not push too much in the beginning like I did last year. It would be great if I can be on the podium in Belgium.”
The team and the whole Suzuki effort clock laps through the winter at Lommel; a renowned track they use as a tough testing base. The sapping terrain might be a tougher prospect now for Strijbos’ team-mate Clement Desalle. The Belgian took an invigorating third place on his return from a knee injury last weekend in the Czech Republic but Lommel will be a different set of conditions compared to the hard-pack of Loket. “I don’t know how it will be, but difficult for sure,” he said. “I will do my best and try to have fun. Everybody knows that even when you are 100% a sand GP like Lommel is difficult! I’ll take it with a smile.”
Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europe duo Glenn Coldenhoff and Jeremy Seewer will have varying approaches to the Belgian fixture. The last time MXGP went into a surface with a sandy consistency (Kegums in Latvia) Coldenhoff took his first win in the category with two sharp starts and superb speed. The Dutchman knows a spotlight will be on his ‘#259’ RM-Z450 to see if he can again be one of the leaders at Lommel. “I’ve seen a lot of guys riding there in the last few weeks and I think [Gautier] Paulin and [Romain] Febvre will be strong,” he said before giving is own surprising view on the Belgian course. “I actually don’t like the layout of the track at Lommel. I think it is ready for a change. I don’t like it to be honest but I hadn’t ridden it much before I went there to practice in the last couple of weeks and I was feeling good. We’ll see.”
Seewer on the other hand is eager to get his teeth into the challenge. The twenty-one year old Swiss turned full Pro this time last year when he finished his studies and for the first time in his career was able to dedicate a winter of training and preparation based around the sand. The ‘#91’ hiked his pace and efficiency to a new level and is now keen to see what results he can post, while keeping one eye on the MX2 world championship standings where he sits just 30 points away from second place.
“I feel pretty good about Lommel,” he says. “We had a good sand race at Tensfeld in the ADAC. Maybe a podium will be difficult because there are some guys who are really at home in the sand but top five will be the goal as well as getting a comfortable feeling. I practiced a lot in the winter in the sand and probably ride 80% of my training motos also; I think that will pay-off there. It is hard work but if you find a good flow you can also enjoy it. You always need to try and find the fun side of it.”
Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europe will also be joined by EMX250 European Championship racers Brian Hsu and Bas Vaessen for the eighth round of nine in the series. Hsu posted his first victory on the RM-Z250 last time out three weeks ago in Latvia and Vaessen was also running with the leaders for the first time this season. The young Dutchman is sure to be competitive once more at Lommel.
The weather forecast for the weekend predicts bright and sunny conditions for race day.
